freedom of expression

It has been stated that students here in angeles university foundation has no say to what the school says. We have no right to comment if ever we have a reaction to the sudden change of tuition fees or any kind of action that we do not agree to. unlike other schools like UP they have the right to protest and be open to what they feel. here in our school we are controlled ny the administration and what is said is said. maybe because students are scared to say what they really feel.

Well actually not only our school but all the univerties here in pampanga does not have the courage to contradict their administration. I do not know actually if its the lack of courage or lack of practice. it has been said the students must have an active voice but if you will notice everything they write about is always the latest news in the university but never what is really happening inside the university that is already affecting the students in a bad way.

it is better to have an active voice rather than to keep quiet because it is for us students to benefit for what we are paying for not the school to benefit from us.

Like you, I was also shock when I had learned that there will be a change of uniform. But, I am also happy with it although I share the same sentiments with students. It is rally not convenient especially if you are a graduating student. I like it because it feels comfortable wearing it although it is hot because we are in a tropical country.. I have no worries except sudden strong blow of the wind. I do not say that I do not wear skirt or there is no way I will wear it. But I am a type of girl who loves to get up with my usual comfortable, sporty way. I always feel so conscious then whenever I ride a jeep and the escalator. Thank you to the person who had this idea.

It is really a big issue in our University if Academic Freedom to the student exists. I can say YES, there is an academic freedom in the University. We have the right to voice out our sentiments. We can comment or react to those sudden changes in our University. It just there were students who are afraid to practice it. Students keep on saying that they don’t have freedom. The question is, “Do they practice their freedom? Or they just comment and don’t make actions?” In other University, students can protest their feelings because these students practice their freedom and they put their words into action. Students in our University are more on complaining and talking but they are less in action or should I say they don’t make movement. As what you have said it is better to have an active voice rather than to keep quite, but keep in mind that you should practice your freedom in action not in your words.

This is from Archie Sangalang]

Maybe in the latter days, I would agree to Fridiane regarding the lack of campus freedom here. But after the Wednesday production about campus freedom, I guess I would say not. Indeed we are free but still we are covered by our responsibility. We must know our limitations upon expression of our emotions.
We are free to express our gratitudes and grievances but not to the extent that we degrade another person. But if the campus is constraining us in all that we should say or write then that is already an un-exercise of campus freedom of expression. We just have to learn our limitations.

Yah it’s really saddening for us student of AUF that compare to other schools we cannot freely exercise our freedom of expression. We are bounded by rules and regulations that we think the admimistraton is controlling our rights as a student to express ourselves.

But AUF believes that we as a student if we don't want the rules and regulations in the campus why we still chose to study in AUF...

We really can exercise our freedom of expression if we think that it's right and we must be responsible and we should know our limitations...

hi fridiane! i think when we talk about freedom of expression, we must always remember that it must have a view that it is not absolute in nature. what i mean is if somebody has freedom of expression, it does not mean that he or she is really free to express whatever she has on her mind. everything in this world is limited. that is why, we must be responsible enough in expressing ourselves. we must be very responsible because we might just hurt feelings of other people who are around us. for this, i would like to thank you for writing this article, because i was able to comment on it. thank you.

Hearing from a student’s view, I realized that some students have a misconception of the freedom of expression. It is not that students don’t have freedom of expression at Angeles University Foundation (AUF). There is freedom but students misconstrue the meaning of freedom. Students don’t know how to exercise this freedom and students are not ready for freedom.

Students can always exercise their freedom and rights. However, the problem lies with us, students. We don’t care to be involved and we don’t care to know.

We should always be aware that broad claims need more proof than narrow ones.

PS: Fridiane, thanks for the help in the production. 

Freedom here in AUF is a stinking meat.
Mosquitoes bite between my eyes but they don't make sense.
Even if I summon for a cyberpunk revolution of blood and ink,
still it won't make sense.
My cinnamon-aromatic ideas are
trafficking in the septum
of suppressed fear, suffocating.

No breath of art.
No narcota of difference.

I remember what mam virgy said that having freedom doesnt license us to do or say whatever we want. Freedom of expression comprises freedom of choice and freedom of speech but as a student we must know our limitations. Yes it's true that we must be active and voice out what we know but we should be able to defend our opinions and show evidences that could support our stand. There are many ways of exercising our freedom of expression in a way that coul help or improve the school rather than making it worst in the eyes and ears of other people. Like What I Also said in Almex's blog. If I will put you in a situation that you publish an article in our school publication about the anomalies in our school and it happens that someone from other school read it and gave savory remarks to the UNIVERSITYdo you thing you're exempted to be criticized just because you are the writer of that article? No. Because you are still wearing the SCHOOL UNIFORM and whatever comments that the school is receiving you will also be affected.. Think about it...=)

It’s so sad that we don’t exercise often our freedom to express our thoughts. It’s bothering us that there will come a time that the University is totally controlling everything inside the campus. Apparently, in terms of campus journalism the University is telling us on what should be publish on the campus paper. For instance if they think that the University will be affected on the article they won’t allow it to publish. We know for a fact that if we exercise freedom it must be expressed with responsibility. Otherwise, what if we are expressing it with responsibility but we are being controlled still. Some people say that students were passive probably yes it is because they were afraid and they know nothing will happen if they voice out because there is no freedom existing.
